Approximate Sizes for Tibetan Singing Bowls with Planetary and Healing Frequencies
Selecting a Bowl
Choosing a singing bowl is very much like meeting someone for the first time. Usually at the very first meeting you will resonate – just like "love at first sight".
Play with as many bowls as possible. Try out different sizes and sounds. Find a bowl that fits you, that harmonizes with you and helps you. Realize that each bowl is absolutely unique and that there is only one just like it in the world – just like you.
If you listen to a singing bowl and you hear your inner voice say: “Beautiful, but ...” then it is probably not the right bowl for you. Trust your inner voice and intuition.
Selecting a Mallet
Mallets for “singing” a bowl are stick-like and may be simply wood or also have a layer of felt or leather. Leather mallets are more thinly bolstered.
Mallets for striking a bowl have a larger head than handle. Their weight and firmness vary greatly. A small wooden mallet used to strike very small singing bowls produces clear overtones. A similar sized mallet covered with leather is also good for striking small bowls. The bowl will sound with a softer tone.
Leather or felt covered wooden mallets can be used to strike small and medium sized bowls.
Wooden mallets are not recommended for striking larger bowls.
For larger singing bowls, thicker or bolstered mallet are best. This allows the deep, dark tone to better unfold and in harmony.
Felt mallets are used the strike the larger and very large singing bowls to bring out the deepest tones. This type of mallet it not recommended for small bowls.
Experiment with mallets to create different sounds from your bowl.
